New, indoors addition to the Nambour market scene

The March Rummagers Market attracted people to Nambour on Sunday.

AN indoor market at Nambour is the latest addition to the Sunshine Coast’s market calendar.

The Nambour Indoor Market will be launched on Sunday, April 7, in the Dance Art Etc space at 120 Currie Street.

The market will run from 9am to 2pm with a variety of stallholders selling candles, crystals, jewellery, knitwear, baby clothes and macrame art and more, all under cover.

Market coordinator Daniel Gibson said the indoor market would offer stallholders and marketgoers some security in unpredictable weather.

“You know the weather we’ve been having recently. I’m sick of waking up in the morning wondering how muddy it’s going to be or if a market will be on,” he said.

“You plan for a weather change and it stays dry when you think it’s going to be wet or it’s wet when you’re expecting it to be dry. It’s really hard to prepare.”

Daniel hopes the later start and finish will appeal to people who want to take weekends slower than during the working week. “Who wants to get up early on a Sunday morning? Sundays should be more casual,” he said.

Daniel, who himself runs a stall at various markets, said it had not been too difficult to attract stallholders.

“I just put the word out. There’ a few places on Facebook that you can find this sort of thing,” he said.

He said food and refreshments would be available at Small Change Espresso next door or other cafes in Nambour.

“There’s a couple of local cafes in Nambour that are open on Sunday and I’ve told them about the market,” he said.

“I didn’t want to get in food trucks because I didn’t want to take away from local business. There’s good food options already in town,” he said.

A second Nambour Indoor Markets is planned for Sunday, 14 April, and Daniel hopes to continue running the event on the second and fourth Sundays of the month from May onwards.

“We have a great range of local stallholders and artists showcasing their products and creations. Crystals, candles, jewellery, clothing – new and preloved, baby clothes, knitwear, macrame art, massage, plus so much more. And local author Claire Smith (a.k.a Grandma Claire) will be there offering book signings.”

VINTAGE ITEMS, MUSICAL DELIGHTS

Markets to unite for Sunday rummage

Nambour’s Sunday scene is in for an exciting shift on April 21 as the Nambour Rummagers Market inaugurates its new home in the Eddie De Vere Council building forecourt and teams up with another market.

Rummagers will partner with Bad Habit Records, who are hosting their own market on the same day in the Old Ambulance building, in what will be a blend of vintage treasures and musical delights.

“We will combine records and vintage up one end of the town and have the Rummage at the other end, like a walking market concept to get people exploring the town, which is what we all want,” explained Phil Dalton from Bad Habit.

Following a successful March market despite the weather, Rummagers organiser Rhonda Billett said the collaboration promised a bustling array of stalls.

“I caught up with Aaron (Borg) and Phil (Dalton) after the first Rummages Market in March and we were pretty quick to realise we needed to collaborate, support each others’ events to make the April 21st event a significant one for Nambour,” said Rhonda.

Rhonda said even despite the rainy weather the March 24 market brought a crowd of people into town. “Currie Street was certainly abuzz on a Sunday morning.”

“The April market is just a few short weeks away, and we are looking to overflow the Nambour Library/Currie Street areas with as many stalls as possible. I am firmly focused on growing this concept for Nambour.”

Its also an even bigger reason to get into Nambour on the Sunday, bring your market basket, grab a coffee from your favourite Cafe and wander the town as we create some awesome Sunday vibes in the CBD.”

• Stallholders interested in participating can contact Nambour Rummagers Market on Instagram, Facebook, or via the Nambour Markets Page on the I am Nambour website or  via  badhabitrecords.com.au to book a spot.
