Homegrown Garden to Plate to Garden Lunch

Monday 29 July from 11am – 1.30pm

A kitchen garden tour showing the closed loop food system used at Homegrown cafe.

Homegrown Garden to Plate to Garden Lunch

The event will start with a kitchen garden tour showing the closed loop food system used at the cafe.

The kitchen garden situated at the back of the cafe is where a majority of our produce is grown. Participants will be able to see the produce growing that will be featured in the meal that will be served. In the extended garden area used for seating and in the public park across from the cafe there are also a number of ingredients including some native foods that we forage for our meals.

We will show the system that we have in place where we compost all our waste that is then used back on the garden. This means we are probably one of very few cafe’s that has an almost zero waste system in place where we only send the equivalent of a cup of waste to landfill every day

The meal will take the format of our homegrown garden bowl using only ingredients available at the time from the garden and from local suppliers. The garden bowl is a base of greens including lettuce, blanched kale bok choy and broccolini served with roast pumpkin black rice coriander mint avocado and a soy ginger and lime dressing.

Participants will also be able to order a hot or cold beverage from our drinks menu. At this time as its winter we will also have local citrus juice and citrus cordial that we make on site from excess fruit that we gather from local gardens.
