Creative Writing Workshop with Melissa Ashley
What’s an idea and where do I find one?
To write a creative piece we need a great big bag of ideas – large and small. In this workshop we’ll have a look at notions of where ideas come from – perhaps not the sky. We’ll explore techniques to seed a garden full of ideas that can be transformed into creative works of any genre. The workshop will involve writing exercises so bring along your writing materials.

Melissa Ashley is the award-winning and best-selling author of the historical fiction novels The Naturalist of Amsterdam (Affirm Press 2023), The Bee and the Orange Tree (2020) and The Birdman’s Wife (2016). Melissa has a PhD and an MPhil in Creative Writing and a first-class honours degree in Literature. The Naturalist of Amsterdam has recently been shortlisted for the 2024 Queensland Literary Awards.
